In commemoration of Mother's Day in Nigeria. we celebrate "super mums". These are women who had it all; a family, a career and great offspring... Funmilayo Anikulapo-Kuti Funmilayo Anikulapo-Kuti (October 1900 – April 1978)   Born Frances Abigail Olufunmilayo Thomas in British-Colonial Nigeria, at the turn of the 20th century, Anikulapo-Kuti was an educator and notable activist, both in women’s rights and Nigeria’s battle for independence. A pioneer on many fronts, she was one of the first Nigerian women to attend the prestigious Abeokuta Grammar School (AGS). In 1914, AGS, which had previously been open to only male students, started admitting female students. France’s was the first, of only six girls admitted that year, to register. Later on, France’s moved to England to complete her education at Wincham Hall School for Girls, Cheshire. By the time she returned to Nigeria in 1922, she had dropped her English names, adopting ‘Funmilayo’, the shortened version of her Yo
